Bubble exists to tell a handful of people that now is a bad time to call. That needs almost no data, so it collects almost none. This page says exactly what there is.
What Bubble stores
- Your phone number. It is the only identity Bubble has. There is no email address, no password, no username and no profile.
- Who you are paired with. A list of the numbers you invited and the ones that accepted you.
- The statuses you set. Which of the preset activities you chose, or the text you typed; when it started; when it is due to end; and which of your Bubbles you shared it with.
- The notes you send. The text you typed, who you sent it to, when it is due to stop being shown, and whether each recipient has tapped Seen. A note is deliberately short and deliberately one-way, but it is your words on our server until it is cleared.
- A push token for each device you sign in on, so the people you share with can be told.
What Bubble does not store, ask for, or have
- Your contacts. Bubble never requests the Contacts permission and never uploads an address book. When you see a name instead of a number, your own iPhone did that, on your iPhone.
- Your location. It is never requested and never inferred.
- Your name or photo. There is nowhere to put one.
- The contents of your calls or messages. Bubble has no access to either, and does not block, intercept or modify calls.
- Analytics or advertising identifiers. There are no third-party SDKs in the app.
Who can see your status and your notes
Only people you have chosen, from a list of people who have each explicitly accepted you. This is enforced in the database rather than by the app: a request for a status you were not shared on returns nothing, and knowing somebody's phone number grants no access of any kind.
If you remove someone from your Bubbles, statuses they could already see stop being readable for them immediately — the pairing is re-checked on every read, not cached.
Statuses you time-box stop being readable when they expire, judged by the server's clock rather than any device's. Notes work the same way, and also stop being readable once the person they were for has tapped Seen.
Notes are read-receipted, and this is the point of them. When someone taps Seen, the sender is told that they did. Nothing else about the tap is recorded — not where they were, not what they were doing, not how long they took — and there is no way to reply, because the single tap is the only response Bubble has.
Who else is involved
- Supabase hosts the database and handles sign-in. Data is stored in the EU (Frankfurt).
- Twilio sends the one-time code when you sign in, and therefore processes your phone number to deliver that message.
- Apple delivers push notifications. A notification contains the sender's number and either their status text or the note they sent, because putting it on your Lock Screen is what it is for.
None of these are given your data for their own purposes, and nothing is sold or shared with advertisers.
How long it is kept
Statuses and notes are kept as history on your account so the app can pre-select the same people next time. Deleting your account deletes your profile, your pairings, your statuses, your notes and your push tokens, immediately and without a grace period. There is no archive and no backup that survives it beyond the provider's routine backup window.
Your choices
- Burst any bubble at any time, and it is gone for everyone.
- Take back a note you sent, as long as nobody has read it yet.
- Remove anyone from your Bubbles, which revokes what they can see, including things already shared.
- Decline any invite. The person who sent it is not told who declined or when.
- Turn off notifications in iOS Settings. The app keeps working; it just tells people less promptly.
- Delete your account from within the app — My Bubbles, then the person icon, then Delete my account. Everything above goes with it.
Children
Bubble is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected or who can see it, the app will say so before the change takes effect rather than quietly updating this page.
